Big News: Queen Elizabeth’s Wish For Camilla Parker Bowles When Prince Charles Becomes King

There has been a whirlwind of major updates with regards to the royal family this past weekend.

With the arrival of her latest Accession Day, Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch in history to serve for 70 years on the throne. And to celebrate the milestone, the royal held a bash at Sandringham House, unveiled a brand new portrait and shared a rare personal message to social media.

Due to all this excitement, it would've been easy to miss the fact that Her Royal Majesty included one major detail in her Accession Day message. Amidst comments about her hopes for the future and her gratitude towards her family, the queen also expressed the desire that her daughter-in-law, Camilla Parker Bowles, be given the title of Queen Consort when Prince Charles takes the throne.

This detail arrived toward the latter half of the queen's message, where she said, “This anniversary also affords me a time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me by people of all nationalities, faiths and ages in this country and around the world over these years. I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me.”

She then added, “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

Recent moves by the queen seemed to suggest that this declaration was coming. Just last month, we noted that because Queen Elizabeth had granted the Duchess of Cornwall another title—Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter—this seemed to indicate the close relationship between the two, and suggest that Queen Elizabeth would grant her the Queen Consort title instead of Princess Consort.

However, Queen Elizabeth isn't ready to leave her position just yet. Her message expressed her continued dedication to her role, stating, “As we mark this anniversary, it gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your service.”

Still, the gesture did not go unnoticed by Bowles's husband, Prince Charles, who shared a message of congratulations to his mother on her historic day, while also adding, “We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother’s wish. As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout.”

Looks like we'll be seeing a Queen Camilla in our future!
