Here's What Will Be Different About Queen Elizabeth's Birthday This Year

Queen Elizabeth II is just two days shy of turning 95 (a seriously impressive feat). However, her birthday celebration this year will look a little different.

This will be the first year in which the Queen will not have her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, by her side. Due to the recent loss of the Duke of Edinburgh, People reports that the milestone birthday will be a much more subdued affair.

While royal family members typically share a portrait each year on their birthday, the monarch will not be unveiling one. Additionally, while the Queen usually celebrates her birth publicly with the Trooping the Colour ceremony, this has been canceled for the second year in a row, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, while the Queen is mourning her recent loss, she may have an unexpected visitor to spend time with for her 95th. Prince Harry, who flew out to the U.K. last week for his grandfather's service, apparently bought an open return ticket, according to the Mirror. Since the Duke of Sussex can return to Los Angeles at any point, many are guessing he will extend his time through to April 21 in order to spend the special occasion with his grandmother.

According to a statement from Buckingham Palace back in March, the reduced festivities may be held in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle, where the ceremonial funeral for Prince Philip took place this past Saturday. While the details of the Queen's birthday celebration are still unclear, we're glad to hear that Her Majesty will have her family by her side.
