Royal Family Releases Brand-New Portrait of Queen Consort Camilla and It Includes a Not-So-Subtle Nod to Queen Elizabeth

Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles celebrated the memory of Queen Elizabeth by posing with a bunch of Paddington Bears, which were left outside of the late monarch’s residence. And some of the beloved teddy bears have already found a home at Clarence House.

Buckingham Palace released a new portrait on the official royal family’s Instagram page over the weekend. In the photo, the royal was surrounded by some of the 1,000 teddy bears that royal admirers left in honor of the late queen after her death.

One of the largest U.K. children’s charities, Barnardo, is working hard to find nice homes for the bears. The fluffy toys are currently being well taken care of at Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and in the Royal Parks nursery (located in Hyde Park) before they are professionally cleaned and donated to loving families.

The photograph was taken in the Morning Room at Clarence House on October 13, 2022, marking the 64th anniversary of the publication of the first Paddington Bear book.

Queen Elizabeth and Paddington Bear have a touching backstory. Earlier this year, the queen appeared in a television promo alongside the lovable character.

In the video, Her Majesty is sitting across from Paddington Bear, and they’re both getting ready to have their afternoon tea. “Thank you for having me. I do hope you're having a lovely Jubilee,” Paddington says.

The sketch ends with Paddington pulling out his emergency marmalade sandwich. And to his surprise, the queen has one of her own that she pulls out of her purse. “I keep mine in here for later,” she says with a smile.

What a touching tribute to the late queen.
