A British Poll Just Revealed that the Public Would Prefer Prince William to Become King Instead of Charles

The British public has spoken. And it seems that if they had the option they would want Prince William to take the throne when Queen Elizabeth’s reign comes to an end.

According to a new survey from DeltaPoll, 47 percent of those polled said they would prefer the Duke of Cambridge to become king—bypassing his father, Prince Charles—directly after the 94-year-old monarch. Joe Twyman, DeltaPoll director, revealed the results in a Tweet on Wednesday, writing, “This is obviously not decided by the British public, but Prince William is the top choice, by some distance.”

According to The Mirror, DeltaPoll interviewed 1,590 adults between March 31 and April 1 for the survey.

The results also revealed that only 27 percent of people would prefer Charles over his eldest son. As Twyman points out, the results seem to vary based on age. For example, only five percent of those who vote for the Prince of Wales were between the ages 18 to 24. The preferred future king for that age group? Prince Harry. “There are big age differences, however, and among 18 to 24-year-olds Harry comes out on top,” Twyman continued.

The survey also addressed the question of when Queen Elizabeth should step down. In response, over 40 percent voted that the monarch should remain in her position until she dies, while 27 percent believes Liz should abdicate if and when she is “no longer in good health.”

Well, this is super interesting.
