Priyanka Chopra Explains the Key Reason She Took Nick Jonas’s Last Name

What’s in a name? For Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a lot.

The 36-year-old Isn’t It Romantic actress opened up during a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night about taking her husband, Nick Jonas’s, last name.

Wearing a very bridal winter white suit, Chopra Jonas explained to Fallon that she knew from the start that she’d add Jonas to her name.

“I always wanted to add his name to mine because I feel like we’re becoming family, and I’m a little traditional and old-school like that,” she explained. “But I don’t take away my identity. He gets added to who I am.” Boom.

But even though she knew she’d one day be Priyanka Chopra Jonas and changed her name on Instagram days after her wedding, the magnitude of her new name took a while to set in.

“The gravity of it, it’s like a big deal! I didn’t realize it was that much of a big deal until I did it,” she exclaimed.

The Quantico star also revealed the reasoning behind having their wedding in her motherland, India.

Chopra Jonas had imagined she’d marry on a private island somewhere (damn), but as she and her then-fiance started exploring options like the “Seychelles, Maldives [and] Mauritius,” they realized that carting their enormous families to a private island would be a logistical nightmare. Thankfully, her 26-year-old beau had an idea. As Chopra Jonas explained, her hubby simply asked, “Why aren’t we doing this in India? Shouldn’t I be taking my bride from her home?”

So, on December 1, they sealed the deal at Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace in front of 200 family and friends. Four wedding receptions later and a failed couple name later (“Prick”), they’re settling into life as Mr. and Mrs. (Chopra) Jonas nicely.
