Princess Eugenie just gained a brand-new title (but it has nothing to do with the royal family).
The 30-year-old announced that she’s teaming up with the Scoliosis Association U.K. (or SAUK). Princess Eugenie will serve as a royal patron for the charity, which should come as no surprise. (At age 12, she underwent surgery to correct the abnormal curve of her spine.)
“We are pleased to announce that Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie has agreed to become the Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association U.K.,” the organization wrote on Twitter.
The Scoliosis Association U.K. was founded in 1981 to offer support to those affected by the condition. Since Princess Eugenie is a proud advocate, the partnership was a no-brainer.
“I am absolutely delighted and grateful that Princess Eugenie is to be our Royal Patron,” Stephanie Clark (co-founder and chair of SAUK) said in a statement, according to People. “Her bravery and experience makes this a very personal decision, and will continue to offer encouragement to the many people of all ages who are struggling to come to terms with their scoliosis.”
Longtime Princess Eugenie fans know she’s no stranger to sharing her story. Back in June, the royal celebrated International Scoliosis Awareness Day on Instagram by sharing a rare photo, featuring her scar on her back.
She captioned the post, “I just wanted to share my scar and encourage anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs with me. Let’s be proud of our scars! I’d love to repost any of your images on my stories so please tag me and I will share.”
