Princess Beatrice’s Royal Wedding Was Supposed to Be Today—Here’s What We Know About Her Postponed Nuptials

Today was supposed to mark a major milestone for Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi—their wedding day. Unfortunately, the Princess of York was forced to postpone her nuptials as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. So, in honor of what was supposed to be the couple’s big day, we’re revisiting everything we know about the intended wedding.

Buckingham Palace announced in February that Beatrice, ninth in line to the throne and fifth eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth, was set to marry the 38-year-old real estate tycoon this spring, on May 29.

The palace also released a statement confirming that the couple would exchange vows at St. James Palace’s Chapel Royal. The traditional ceremony was to be followed by a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

“The wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will take place on Friday, 29th May, 2020,” the palace revealed in a statement. “The couple became engaged in Italy in September 2019. Her Majesty the queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by the queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.”

As expected, the location is riddled with royal significance. The Chapel Royal is not only where Prince George (6) and Prince Louis (1) were christened, but it’s also where Queen Victoria wed Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg in February 1840. Talk about tradition.

Princess Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi dated for just over a year before getting engaged in Italy, where his father’s a count (NBD). The 31-year-old Princess of York and her beau celebrated the news by sharing pictures from the moment, along with snaps of the gorgeous engagement ring that he himself designed.

It’s already been reported that Mapelli Mozzi’s 3-year-old son was set to play a part in the festivities, but the question remains: Will Prince George and Prince Louis make cameos in the wedding as page boys? We’ll have to wait and see, but George is basically a pro at this point.

So, what's the good news in all of this? Well, the couple still plans on having a wedding at some point. “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding. They aren't even thinking about their wedding at this time," a spokesperson for the couple recently told People. "There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet.”

We’ll be waiting.
