The “hair distraction” in question? When Princess Beatrice attended Prince Philip’s funeral last month, she opted against her signature all-down hairstyle. Instead, the royal wore her hair in a high ponytail. The decision caught the attention of some simply because it’s super out of character. Although she regularly wears accessories—like headbands and fascinators—she rarely styles her hair in updos.
Since Princess Beatrice probably knew she was pregnant at the time, many were left to wonder if she purposely changed her hairstyle to distract us from her baby bump. It wouldn’t be totally out of the ordinary, since—as the fan theory goes—Middleton did the same exact thing during her pregnancies with Prince George (7), Princess Charlotte (6) and Prince Louis (3).
Back in 2017, Kate Proctor (a reporter for the U.K.’s Evening Standard) pointed out the seemingly coincidental correlation between the duchess’s hairstyles and her baby bumps. “Pattern is Duchess of Cambridge changes her hairstyle, people concentrate on her head, then announces pregnancy,” she wrote on Twitter. “My gfs called this wks ago!”
So, did Princess Beatrice switch up her hair to throw us off? We’ll let you be the judge.
