Prince William Shares the Worst Gift He Ever Gave Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton may be going on ten years of marriage, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t run into bumps getting there.

The 38-year-old Duke of Cambridge made a recent appearance on the BBC’s That Peter Crouch Podcast, where he spoke of the early days when he and Kate were just beginning their relationship. When one host said that he had gifted his partner a tree, Prince William revealed his worst-ever gift to Kate.

“I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once,” he said. “She's never let me forget that.” Um, well... we think it could’ve been much worse. “That was early on in the courtship,” he continued. “I tell you what, I think that sealed the deal. She fell for me at that point.”

“I think I was convincing myself about it,” he continued. “I was like, ‘These are really amazing! Look how far you can see!’ And she started looking at me going, ‘They're binoculars. What's going on?’ It didn't go well.” It’s the thought that counts, obviously.

The Duke had joined the podcast to promote the Heads Up campaign, a partnership between his mental health initiative, Heads Together, and the Football Association. Aside from the binoculars incident, he also spoke about the return of football during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as his experiences playing and watching football with his family.

Listen, we would take a pair of binoculars from Prince William or Kate Middleton. Just sayin’.
