Prince William Was Just Given 2 New Titles by Queen Elizabeth (Because Every Future King Needs More Responsibility)

Prince William just added two more royal titles to his already impressive resume.

Over the weekend, Queen Elizabeth named the Duke of Cambridge patron of two wildlife conservation charities—Fauna & Flora International (which he took over from the queen) and the British Trust for Ornithology (which was handed down from Prince Philip). Her Majesty announced the exciting news on Twitter.

“Established in 1903, Fauna & Flora International @FaunaFloraInt is the world’s oldest international wildlife conservation organization,” one tweet read. “The Queen has held the role of Patron for almost seven decades.”

The announcement continued, “The Duke of Edinburgh has been succeeded by The Duke of Cambridge as Patron of @_BTO. The Duke of Edinburgh has been Patron for over thirty years and has been fascinated by ornithology—the study of birds— for over six decades.”

We’re not at all surprised that the 94-year-old monarch has chosen her eldest grandson for the roles. Not only is he a wildlife advocate, conservationist and environmentalist, but it’s likely Elizabeth wants to add more royal responsibilities to his plate, considering he is second in line to the throne.

The news comes just days after Queen Elizabeth attended her first public engagement since March in a rare joint appearance with Prince William. On Thursday, the duo visited the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) near Salisbury to formally open the new Energetics Analysis Centre. Not only was it Lilibet’s big public return, but it also marked the first time in two years she and Will have done a solo joint outing together.

We have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more from this grandmother-grandson team in the near future.
