Prince William & Kate Middleton Break Royal Protocol with Rare Show of PDA

Kate Middleton and Prince William tend to stick to Queen Elizabeth's royal protocol. However, on a rare occasion, the couple defies the rules by showing PDA. William’s Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony last weekend was one of those times.

On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped onto the red green carpet for the event at Alexandra Palace in London. For the occasion, Middleton, who was also one of the presenters, opted to rewear her lilac gown by Alexander McQueen, which she previously wore to a BAFTA black-tie event a decade ago. Her husband also took the sustainable route and recycled his green velvet suit which he first sported back in 2019.

And while we were distracted by their joint carpet appearance, William’s speech and the incredible honorees, there were a handful of behind-the-scenes moments that we totally missed. That is...until now. The duo recently shared a handful of photos on Instagram, featuring a few backstage moments. And in a rare turn of events, one of those photos included an instance of PDA between Kate and Will.

The first snap showed the couple walking through a curtain to the stage while the second featured William alone waiting to start the show. However, the third pic captured a sweet interaction between them, where Middleton placed her hand on the lower back of her husband and looked at him lovingly.

Per the caption, all of the images were shot by royal photographer Chris Jackson. “The Duchess obviously felt really proud of what [Prince William] had achieved with this project,” Jackson told People in an exclusive. “Seeing first-hand this realization of this huge amount of work for him. It was a really special evening.”

While these romantic moments may be fleeting, we’re happy to take what we can get.
