Prince William Gets Real About Becoming a Dad in New TV Special

Prince William is getting candid about his “biggest life-changing moment”—having children.

In a newly-released preview for the Duke of Cambridge’s BBC program, Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health, he opens up about his experience with parenthood. The show, which airs on May 28, will focus on the 37-year-old as he speaks with athletes about their own experiences and the negative stigma men often face when it comes to mental health issues.

William and Kate Middleton’s official Instagram account released the new footage on Tuesday, featuring the duke and former soccer player Marvin Sordell (who suffered from depression) discussing the pressures of becoming a parent for the first time.

“Having children is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is...I think when you’ve been through something traumatic in life, and that is like you say, your dad not being around, my mother dying when I was younger, the emotions come back, in leaps and bounds,” the royal said.

The duke, who shares three children—Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2—with the Duchess of Cambridge, also opened up about his supportive relationship with his wife.

“Me and Catherine, particularly, we support each other and we go through those moments together and we kind of evolve and learn together,” William continued. “I can completely relate to what you’re saying about children coming along—it’s one of the most amazing moments of life, but it’s also one of the scariest.”

So, is it too much to ask for a cameo from the rest of the Cambridge clan in Thursday’s doc?
