A Guard Dog Once Mistook Prince William for an Intruder & His Reaction Was Priceless

prince william 2

Most people can easily spot Prince William from miles away, but the same can't be said for a certain guard dog.

In a recent interview with Eastern Daily Press, retired officer Jon Chandler described a rather interesting incident that took place at the Sandringham Castle a few years ago. While William was out for a late walk, Chandler's dog caught a whiff of his scent and mistook the royal for a trespasser.

Chandler explained, "I had a particularly interesting night when I was walking my dog off the lead around the grounds and he chased after the future king of England. It was late at night and Prince William was walking towards the garages and the dog picked up his scent and went charging after him."

The dog then cornered William until his handler arrived, but thankfully, he wasn't hurt.

According to Chandler, the good-natured royal—who happens to be a dog-lover himself—took it all in "good jest." He continued, "It could have gone horribly wrong if he was bitten, but fortunately the dog did what it was supposed to do, and just stood back and barked at him. It was a memorable night."

Apparently, Prince William isn't the only one who has been mistaken for an intruder. While taking a late-night stroll at Buckingham Palace in 2017, Queen Elizabeth was confronted by a patrolman who drew his rifle—but thankfully, no one was harmed.

At the time of the incident, the guard reportedly told the queen, "Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you," to which the queen replied, “That’s quite all right. Next time I’ll ring through beforehand so you don’t have to shoot me.”

Whew... Talk about a close call.
