The students of Ark Burlington Danes Academy got a royal surprise today when Prince William popped in for an impromptu chat about cyberbullying in honor of Children’s Mental Health Week.
The Duke of Cambridge spoke out against societal beauty standards in his address and called out the “fakeness” and “touched-up” photos that perpetuate unrealistic body and beauty expectations.
As the father of a daughter, Prince William expressed, “I worry for you girls…so don’t try and re-create or think that’s what, you know, you’ve got to aim for. There’s a lot of fakeness online, so don’t worry about that.”
The expectant father also mused about the impact the internet has on culture, saying, “The online world is a whole new sphere that we never had to deal with. If you’re trying to do your normal life and trying to get that right and make friends, then you’ll also try and do that online. That’s a lot of pressure, guys.”
Well said, William.
