Prince William & Kate Middleton Release a Never-Before-Seen Portrait from Prince Louis’s Second Birthday

Remember when we reported on all of those adorable portraits of Prince Louis in honor of his second birthday? Well, as it turns out, there was one we didn't get to see...until now.

Yup. It seems Kate Middleton also shot a more formal portrait of the young royal, one without any rainbow paint. A royal fan named Kat, who runs the Instagram account @katsroyalletters, discovered the sweet pic after she wrote a letter to Buckingham Palace back in April to wish Louis a happy birthday.

To thank her for her well-wishes, the royal family sent her the brand-new photo alongside a message that read, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appreciated your kind thought in writing to Prince Louis as you did on the occasion of his second birthday. This was greatly appreciated by Their Royal Highnesses who send you their best wishes.” Luckily, the fan account was kind enough to share the image with us.

In the pic, we see Louis, smiling into the camera wearing the same blue and white checkered shirt also seen in the original photographs.

ICYMI: The birthday portraits were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge and feature the young royal completing a rainbow art project. The sweet shots show the prince with rainbow-colored paint on his hands, paint on his face and, of course, the finished product—his rainbow handprint on a piece of paper.

However, by the looks of his clean hands, we're going to guess this new photo was taken before Middleton broke out the ROYGBIV.
