Royal Baby Alert! Crown Prince Leka II of Albania Welcomes First Child—& We Already Have a Name

A brand-new royal baby has arrived. (And no, this has nothing to do with soon-to-be mom Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.)

The Albanian royal family just revealed that Crown Prince Leka II and his wife, Princess Elia, welcomed their first child: a baby girl named Princess Geraldine. The delivery took place at the Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital in Tirana.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because the newborn is named after Prince Leka’s late grandmother, Queen Geraldine. Although she passed away back in 2002, the moniker seemed like a fitting choice, especially since Princess Geraldine shares a birthday with her great-grandmother: October 22.

The royal family announced the exciting news in a statement, which read: “The Albanian Royal Family is delighted to announce the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Geraldine, who was born to Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Leka of the Albanians and Crown Princess Elia, Thursday the 22nd of October. Crown Princess Elia was safely delivered at 09:30, the ‘Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital’ in Tirana. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Crown Prince Leka II is the only child of his parents, King Leka and the late Queen Susan. (She tragically died in 2004 after battling lung cancer.) In 2010, the royal announced his engagement to Princess Elia. Six years later, the couple tied the knot in an intimate wedding in Tirana.

Congratulations to the new parents!
