Is Prince Harry's Ex-Commanding Officer the Real Inspiration for Archie's Name?

Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll? Archie the comic book character? Archie, the son of Amy Poehler? We've had some pretty lame guesses for why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby has the name Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor...and none of them feel very correct.

But we may have finally landed on a plausible explanation for royal baby Archie's namesake: Prince Harry's ex-commanding officer, mentor and friend, Tom Archer-Burton.

According to Page Six, Major Archer-Burton was Harry's "hero" and his commanding officer in the British Army. Known by his friends as "Archie," the commander’s close bond with Prince Harry continued outside the Duke of Sussex's service in Afghanistan in 2008. The pair traveled through Africa together on a school-building charity mission in 2011.

Archer-Burton attended Harry and Meghan's royal wedding in May, and "has met most of Harry’s family, including Meghan," according to The Sun.

“Archie was Harry’s rock, and he was the one instrumental in getting him sent to Afghanistan, which was always Harry’s dream—to serve on the front line," the report continued. Prince Harry's rock! Pass the tissues, you guys.

“It’s well known in army circles, and Archie’s inner circle, that baby Archie is a nod to him,” a source told The Sun.

Hear that, baby Archie? Your dad is the sweetest.
