Prince Harry Opens Up About Wanting to Make Amends with Prince William: ‘I Would Like to Have My Brother Back’

As the release date for Prince Harry’s upcoming tell-all memoir Spare steadily approaches, the Duke of Sussex has sat down for a candid interview with ITV network (which will air on January 8) and among many topics, he discussed his desire to reconnect with certain members of the royal family.

In a newly released clip from the interview (courtesy of The Telegraph), Harry opens up about wanting to make amends with his brother, Prince William, as well as his father, King Charles. Ever since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, chose to step away from their royal duties, their relationship with the rest of the family has been quite strained—something he apparently wants to fix.

“I want a family, not an institution,” the duke said to news reporter Tom Bradby. “I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back.”

And during a separate interview with CNN reporter Anderson Cooper, Harry candidly talked about the backlash he and his wife faced once they decided to separate themselves from the rest of the royal family.

“One of the criticisms that you’ve received is that well, okay, fine, you want to move to California, you want to step back from the institutional role, why be so public? You say you tried to do this privately,” Cooper asks in a teaser video, to which Harry responds, “And every single time I’ve tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife. You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain.’ But it’s just a motto. And it doesn’t really hold.”

We truly hope Harry, William, and the rest of the royal family can finally sit down and work things out.
