Prince Harry & Meghan Didn't Get Invited to Trooping the Colour for the First Time

Sad news, royal fans. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be attending Saturday's milestone royal event.

As it turns out, the Sussexes did not receive invitations to King Charles's first birthday parade, which will mark the first time Prince Harry is not involved in the annual Trooping the Colour. Why, you ask? Well, according to one royal expert, they're no longer required to attend royal events because they're not working royals anymore.

Royal historian Gareth Russell told Us Weekly, "I don't think they need to be invited. Not as a kind of insult to them, but you know, it's a long trip to make from California for the sake of Trooping the Colour...I think this is one of the events where the Sussexes were never going to be invited."

Some fans, however, suspect that the pair are being excluded because of Prince Harry's controversial tell-all memoir, which reportedly led to some tension with the royal family. One source told the Daily Mail, "I'm afraid it's a reflection of the state of relations at the moment."

Although Meghan and Harry will be absent, several other royal family members are expected to attend, including Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, Kate Middleton, the royal kids, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Trooping the Colour, a 260-year-long tradition, is an annual ceremony that celebrates the birthday of the British monarch. Per the official royal website, the streets are "lined with crowds" and "over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together each June in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare."

In 2022, for Queen Elizabeth's final Trooping the Colour, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to the U.K. with their children to join the festivities, although they kept a relatively low profile and did not join the royal family on the balcony for the official flypast. In previous years, before the pair stepped down, the royal couple participated in the queen's birthday parade and appeared on the balcony.

Fingers crossed the pair will still score invites to other royal events in the future.
