They’ve been dating for just over a year, and she recently had tea with the queen, but with all the noise and hubbub surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, why hasn’t he popped the question yet?
Timing is everything. The royal event calendar is chock-full of obligations from now until December, and there’s one occasion Prince Harry wouldn’t dare eclipse: Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s platinum wedding anniversary (that’s 70 years, folks) on November 20.
That is, according to Darren McGrady, who served as the royal family’s head chef from 1982 until 1993. “I don’t think he’ll upstage them. I think he’ll wait until December and…he’ll make an announcement and that means, then, Meghan will get to go to Sandringham for Christmas,” McGrady tells PureWow.
The royal family customarily spends Christmas at the queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England. If Prince Harry and Markle are engaged by then, the celebrity chef—who’s releasing his second cookbook, The Royal Chef at Home: Easy Seasonal Entertaining, on November 1—wagers she’ll be invited to join in on the decades-long holiday tradition.
Keep your manicurist close and your wedding hashtag ideas closer, Meghan Markle.
