Prince Harry Jokes About Being Late to His First Date with Meghan Markle Due to Traffic

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are sharing never-before-heard details about their first date, including how the royal was 30 minutes late.

In Netflix’s new Harry & Meghan documentary, Prince Harry explained that he first became aware of Markle when he saw a photo of her on a mutual friend’s Instagram page and reached out to see if she was single. Markle recalled the email she received from her friend, which read, “I know you said you’re single and a friend of mine asked about you. Maybe you’d like to meet him.”

When her friend introduced him as “Prince Haz,” Markle had no idea who he was. However, she didn’t Google him. Instead, she browsed his Instagram page. “I went through, and it was all this beautiful photography and environmental shots from the time he was spending in Africa,” Markle said.

After exchanging phone numbers, Prince Harry admitted that they “we were constantly in touch.” They finally met for drinks when Markle was visiting London, and Prince Harry didn’t make the best impression because he was late.

“I couldn’t understand why he’d be late,” Markle said. “He kept texting and saying, ‘I’m in traffic. I’m so sorry.’”

Prince Harry admitted that he underestimated how long it would take to get there. “I was panicking. I was freaking out. I was sweating,” he recalled. “And then I walked in a red hot sweaty mess.”

Markle added, “You were genuinely so embarrassed and late.”

Prince Harry was quick to remind Markle that when they went out the following night, she was late. But she was only tardy by five minutes, as opposed to 30.

We love their playful banter.
