Meghan Markle Couldn’t Attend the Palace Garden Party, but Prince Harry Made Sure She Was Still Front & Center

Meghan Markle may still be on maternity leave, but Prince Harry’s got everything covered.

Attending a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (with Queen Liz as his date, no less), the Duke of Sussex did double duty schmoozing with about 8,000 (!) guests for both himself and his wife. (What a guy.)

According to People, Harry made his rounds speaking to all four of Meghan’s royal patronages, which include support for arts with the National Theatre; access to education via the Association of Commonwealth Universities; support for women with SmartWorks; and animal welfare, via animal organization Mayhew. Meghan can breathe easy knowing her husband is putting in a good word for her while she’s on new mom duty. On top of that, Harry also spoke with representatives from his own patronages (including African Parks, a wildlife conservation nonprofit). How much time do you think he spent talking about 3-week-old Archie’s baby rolls?

The party, one of three garden fêtes hosted by the queen this year, was thrown as a way to recognize upstanding members of the community. The tradition dates back to Queen Victoria’s reign in the 1860s, and more than a whopping 30,000 people will take part in one this year alone. The garden parties hold special significance for Meghan and Harry, as they attended their first as a couple just days after their wedding in May 2018. The @sussexroyal Instagram account posted a series of photos to thank the attendees, which included members of the Armed Services, ambassadors and those working in the arts, charity and volunteering.
