Prince Charles Tries His Hand as a Fashion Designer with New Eco-Friendly Clothing Line

Move over, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. Prince Charles might be our new go-to royal when it comes to fashion inspiration. The Prince of Wales just helped launch an eco-friendly clothing line. And we have the first look.

That’s right—the Duke of Cornwall recently unveiled a sustainable clothing collection as part of a collaboration between The Prince's Foundation and Yoox Net-a-Porter. Called The Modern Artisan Project, the new line features 10 women's items and eight men’s pieces and was created to promote "high-end textile skills among young craftsmen."

“The project was born from HRH The Prince of Wales’s and my shared passion for educating and investing in the next generation of talent,” Federico Marchetti, the Chairman and CEO of Yoox Net-a-Porter group, told Town & Country. “Our partnership unites the ancient profession of the artisan—one of the world’s oldest—with cutting edge technology, creating truly modern artisans ready for our changing world."

While the sustainable pieces are certainly refined and polished, they do come with a pretty heft price tag. For example, the cable-knit cashmere turtleneck sweater (the cheapest piece in the women's collection) retails for $475, while the belted merino wool and cashmere-blend coat is the most expensive, ringing in at $1,495.

“For me, I have always tried to use my own wardrobe to highlight great craftsmanship, whether that is in the manufacture or, more often these days, the repair of an item,” Prince Charles said of the line, per The Telegraph. “I have always believed in the 'Buy once, buy well' philosophy, so the more I wear them, the more sustainable I hope I become!”
