Netflix Officially Renewed ‘Ozark’ for Season 4—and It’s the Last One

Fans of Netflix’s Emmy-winning series Ozark have waited patiently for news of more episodes. Now they’re getting a fourth—and final—season.

Netflix confirmed the news with an Instagram post, writing, “They're going out with a bang. Ozark will conclude with an expanded 14-episode final season.”

The crime drama follows Marty and Wendy Byrde (Jason Bateman and Laura Linney) as they relocate their family from Chicago to the Ozarks to make amends with a drug cartel on a money laundering scheme gone wrong. (Light stuff, right?) We shan’t spoil anything, on the off chance that you haven’t spent quarantine breezing through seasons one through three.

A premiere date for the final season hasn’t been announce yet, but it will be split into two segments of seven episodes each, Variety reports. (Previous seasons of the show have had ten episodes each.) “A super sized season means super sized problems for the Byrdes,” Bateman said in a statement. “I’m excited to end with a bang(s).” (Whatever that means.) Showrunner Chris Mundy will return for season four, along with Bateman, Linney, Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan and Lisa Emery.

As dark as its subject matter is, Ozark has been a success among critics and fans, garnering 14 Emmy nominations since it premiered in 2017. And besides, once you finish an episode, you can immediately turn on the new season of Queer Eye to lighten the mood again. (Just us? We think not.)
