Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) and Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) are (re)teaming up for an all-new Netflix series, Ratched, which tells the story behind Nurse Ratched, the diabolical “battle-axe” character from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Following a competitive bidding war with Hulu and Apple, Netflix landed Murphy's two-season, 18-episode series, according to Deadline. AHS alum Paulson will portray a younger version of Nurse Ratched (originally played by Louise Fletcher), and producer Michael Douglas, who helmed the O.G. film, will join Murphy behind the camera.
Ratched, which was created and written by Hollywood newcomer Evan Romansky, is a prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and will take place in 1947 as Nurse Ratched navigates her way through the mental health care system. The series will detail how she went from an innocent nursing newbie to the hideous human being we saw in the classic 1975 film.
An exact premiere date has yet to be released, but Ratched is expected to be streaming-ready sometime in mid 2018.
You're scarin' us, Ryan Murphy.
