It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood to get a little teary over Mr. Rogers and Tom Hanks.
If you'll remember, Hanks is playing beloved television personality Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, currently slated to hit theaters November 22.
In honor of what would've been Rogers's 91st birthday, Sony Pictures has released a new still from the film, and for that we thank them. In it, Hanks is dressed in classic Mr. Rogers garb as he smiles while tossing a dress shoe in the air. The resemblance is, in a word, uncanny.
Based on an article titled “Can You Say…Hero?” by Tom Junod, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) and was written by Noah Harpster (Transparent) and Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Transparent). Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Chris Cooper (Live by Night) and This Is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson also appear in the much-anticipated film, which tells the story of the real-life friendship between Rogers and Junod.
