Ever since Netflix announced Selena: The Series in 2018, fans have been buzzing with questions about it. And now, thanks to the streaming platform’s newest trailer, we’ve finally got some answers—including a premiere date.
On top of releasing a brand new teaser, Netflix recently announced that Selena: The Series is set to drop on Friday, Dec. 4.
The black-and-white trailer includes shots of Selena Quintanilla (portrayed by The Walking Dead star Christian Serratos) performing the song "Como La Flor" on stage. Meanwhile, her father Abraham Quintanilla (played by Ricardo Chavira) narrates in the background.
He says, "Do you trust your father? If you keep practicing, it’s all gonna pay off. Just watch."
Then, after some time passes and Selena rises to fame, we hear her father add, "When I see you on that stage, I still see the six-year-old girl singing in our backyard."
Selena: The Series will tell the story of the Mexican-American singer's rise to fame, beginning with her childhood. And aside from Serratos and Chavira, the main cast will include Madison Taylor Baez as the younger Selena, Seidy Lopez as her mother Marcella Quintanilla, Noemi Gonzalez as her sister Suzette Quintanilla and Gabriel Chavarria as her brother A.B. Quintanilla. Hiromi Kamata is directing the web series while Abraham and Suzette Quintanilla are executive-producing alongside Rico Martínez, Simran Singh, Moisés Zamora and Jaime Dávila.
When the show was first announced, Suzette said in a statement, "Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come."
