Meet Kate. She’s the newest female action hero, and she’ll soon be streaming into your home thanks to the producers of Atomic Blonde and John Wick.
Netflix is making its first foray into the female-led action hero business with a $25 million feature film titled Kate. According to Deadline, newish Hollywood screenwriter Umair Aleem will pen the script based on a female protagonist, with a dash of Kill Bill and La Femme Nikita for some additional savory flavoring.
Aleem’s vision of the film? Imagine Cate Blanchett (who’s not part of the project...yet) as Lee Marvin in a hard-boiled action thriller about a woman who has 24 hours to solve her own murder, Deadline reports.
The project is currently being rushed into production due to the streaming giant’s ambitious announcement that it plans to generate 80 (!!) films in 2018. April is the film’s expected production date. That is, of course, contingent upon securing a director and a star. Chop, chop, Netflix!
Calling Charlize Theron. We’re thinking those Atomic Blonde stunt sequence bruises must be healed by now.
