#ThatAwkwardMomentWhen your sister-in-law’s cousin who you met once at a wedding follows you on Instagram. You can’t not follow them back (rude),but you also don’t want to see photos of her new cat Every. Single. Day.
Instagram is here to save us all with a “mute” feature that’s slowly rolling out to people’s phones over the next two weeks (so don’t be too worried if you don’t see it right away). Just go to someone’s profile, tap the button with the three dots in the top right-hand corner and press mute. Now, their posts won’t show up on your newsfeed even though you still follow them, and you’ll still get a notification when they tag you in a comment or picture. You can also still navigate to their profile to view their Instas that way.
Ex-boyfriend who’s dating someone new? Annoying friend from college who’s trying to become a blogger? Co-worker who just got engaged and can’t stop sharing "#ISaidYes!" pics? Mute, mute and (oh, for God’s sake—relax, sister) MUTE.
