The Viral ‘Cat Person’ Author Is Writing a Movie...and It’s a Horror Film

If you remember, back in December The New Yorker published a short story, "Cat Person," that went absolutely viral.

Written by Kristen Roupenian, it was about a 20-year-old college student who falls into a seductive texting convo and goes on a terrible date with an older man.

Now, Roupenian is capitalizing on her viral fame. According to The Hollywood Reporter, her horror screenplay Bodies, Bodies, Bodies has been picked up by A24, the production-finance-distribution company behind movies like Lady Bird and Ex Machina.

Apparently, like "Cat Person," the script "shows heightened sensitivity to character development and social dynamics in a subversive way." Needless to say, we're intrigued.

On top of that, THR reports that Roupenian has also scored a seven-figure deal with Scout Press for her next collection of stories, based on the breakaway success of "Cat Person."

And here we were saving our bad date stories for the group chat...
