Very Important Research Just Revealed the Most Popular ‘Harry Potter’ Spells & Books in Each State
Harry Potter fans are everywhere from California to Idaho to New York. They share a love for the wizarding world and a boy who once lived in a cupboard under the stairs, but not all Potterheads are alike.
How do we know? Well, new (very scientific) research conducted by Joybird via Google Analytics determined the most popular Harry Potter spells and books in each state, and you have to see the results for yourself.
According to Joybird’s Google search data, The Deathly Hallows is the most-searched Harry Potter book in the country. But as you can see, states like Georgia and Colorado prefer The Prisoner of Azkaban. Nevada, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Hawaii, Iowa and Kentucky are more Chamber of Secrets kind of people. Tennessee and Utah like to keep it OG by searching for The Sorcerers Stone.
When it comes to the most-searched Harry Potter spells, there were also some major takeaways.
Lumos, Accio and Stupefy are among the most popular country-wide, with Lumos at the top of list. There must be Dementors in Wisconsin, Arkansas, Colorado and Missouri because Expecto Patronum is their go-to incantation. And in Ohio they shoot to kill (or at least temporarily paralyze) with Petrificus Totalus. Potterheads in Idaho, Oklahoma and Maine enjoy the classic Wingardium Leviosa, which Hermione would likely point out is pronounced Wingardium Leviosa, not Wingardium Leviosah. Georgians? Oh, they just love Riddikulus.
So there you have it. As far as spells and books go, not all Potter-loving states have the same taste.
