The pre-motherhood jitters are officially setting in for Mindy Kaling!
In an interview with Sunday Today’s Willie Geist, Kaling discussed her thoughts on motherhood and confessed she’s nervous about living up to her own expectations. She said, “Right now, I just feel so anxious. But I’d like to be the fun mom. I know I’m going to be the dorky mom. So if I could be kind of fun, too, I think that would be nice.”
Kaling had an extremely close relationship with her mother, Swati Chokalingam, who passed away in 2012 after a battle with cancer. However, her mom’s dedication to the family has inspired Kaling to emulate the same relationship with her own child. “My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did.”
She continued, “My career choice was not something that she was familiar with, and she was just so supportive of that. And if I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I’d be so happy.” Excuse us, we have, uh, something in our eye.
The final season of The Mindy Project is now streaming on Hulu.
