Move Over, Mandy Moore: Milo Ventimiglia’s Newest Co-star Is a Golden Retriever (and We Have the Film’s First Trailer)

Big news for This Is Us fans—Milo Ventimiglia is starring in a new movie, and did we mention it involves a canine co-star?

Based on Garth Stein's 2008 novel of the same name, The Art of Racing in the Rain follows a golden retriever named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner) as he and his best friend and owner Denny (Ventimiglia) navigate life and Denny's goals of becoming a Formula One race car driver.

Told from the perspective of Enzo, the film charts the pup’s life from his early days to big milestones, such as Denny’s marriage to Eve (Amanda Seyfried). The trailer features a montage of clips highlighting Denny and Eve's wedding, the couple welcoming a daughter, the family facing hardships and there's even a shot of an ambulance. And throughout the trailer, there’s a lot of (you guessed it) rain.

“No one knows what curves life will throw at you,” Enzo says in a voiceover. “But, if a driver has the courage to create his own conditions, then the rain is simply rain.” Some seriously wise words from a dog.

Directed by Simon Curtis, the film also stars Amanda Seyfried, McKinley Beicher III, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Martin Donovan and Giacomo Finn.

The Art of Racing in the Rain will be in theaters August 9. Now all we need is a Mandy Moore cameo.
