The Met Gala is to fashion as the Oscars are to acting. The annual event celebrates the opening of a new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Anna Wintour Costume Center and is the style event of the year. While we have to wait until the first Monday in May to see what Rihanna will wear, we do know this year’s theme. It is...drumroll, please...
“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
Per Vogue, the exhibit is “designed to create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art in the museum’s holdings” and will feature religion-inspired pieces from the likes of Coco Chanel, Cristóbal Balenciaga and John Galliano. Visitors will also be able to see papal garb on loan from the Sistine Chapel sacristy, many of which have never been seen outside the Vatican.
Sure, the exhibit (which will be on view from May 10 to October 8) sounds fascinating, but what about the party that opens it? Yeah, that’s shaping up to be pretty next-level, too, with a host roster that includes the aforementioned Rihanna along with Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace.
Here's to hoping our ticket doesn't get lost in the mail this year. Again.
