Meghan Markle Still Holds 3 Official Royal Titles, Even After Her Resignation

We all know that before she was Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was just a common American citizen (which she’s sort of back to being right now, but more on that later).

But post-royal-wedding to Prince Harry, Markle actually received more than just her duchess title. In fact, she got three (!) other royal titles to her name due to her joining the monarchy.

The duchess was also named the Countess of Dumbarton (where the heck is Dumbarton?), Baroness Kilkeel (a small fishing town in Northern Ireland) and Princess of the United Kingdom (ugh, jealous). The four titles were bestowed upon Markle on the morning of her marriage by Queen Elizabeth II. FYI: Upon further inspection, Dumbarton is a town in Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde.

However, since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, both Harry and Meghan have lost their HRH titles, plus a few more. So, which ones is the duchess able to keep? Well, according to the official royal website, the duchess’s titles still include the Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel. That means the only one she lost is Princess of the United Kingdom (sad). But hey, three out of four ain’t so bad.

And while many other aspects of her hubby’s life have changed, Prince Harry was luckily able to keep his place in the British line of succession. (He’s currently sixth in line.)

Even though she may no longer be considered “royal,” Meghan will always be a princess to us.
