Meghan Markle Just Gave a Powerful Speech & Included a ‘Personal Note’

Meghan Markle just made a bold statement during her royal tour of Africa, and all we have to say is…yaaasss!

Today, the Duchess of Sussex, 38, kicked off the family’s ten-day outing alongside her husband, Prince Harry. While the couple have their 4-month-old son, Archie, in tow, they chose to leave him with the nanny for this particular excursion, and we don’t blame them.

You see, the royal couple visited the Nyanga township, which is known as the “murder capital” of Cape Town, South Africa, according to Daily Mail reporter Rebecca English.

While there, Markle chatted with bystanders outside the Nyanga Methodist Church, danced with locals and even gave a powerful speech about why she wants to be seen as a mother, not as a member of the royal family.

“Just on one personal note, may I just say that while I am here with my husband as a member of the royal family I want you to know that for me, I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of color and as your sister. I am here with you and I am here for you,” she said, as English reports.

Markle wore a black and white leopard print dress by Mayamiko, a sustainable fashion brand based in Malawi. Unfortunately, the frock sold out within minutes. (Darn you, Markle effect.) But we’ll definitely be checking back for restocks, since it retails for the affordable price of £69 (around $85).

Bless you, Markle.
