How Meghan Markle Honored Princess Diana with Her Pregnancy Announcement

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are following in Princess Diana's footsteps.

In case you missed it, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on Valentine's Day that they are expecting their second child, which means their one-year-old, Archie, will soon become a big brother. Better yet, it turns out that the date of their announcement has a sweet connection to the late Princess of Wales.

When Diana was pregnant with Harry in 1984, the royal family made the announcement on Feb. 13., and by Valentine's Day, the world was buzzing with the exciting news of another royal baby.

At the time, the news made the front page of nearly every major news outlet, including The Daily Telegraph. The article read, "They told the Queen and Prince Philip of their welcome news a few days ago, and a Buckingham Palace Spokesman said all of the royal family was 'delighted.'"

Similarly, after Meghan and Harry's spokesperson confirmed the news of their pregnancy to People, Buckingham Palace released a brief statement and said, "Her Majesty, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well." 

The duke and duchess announced the big news on Sunday with a gorgeous black and white photo, which shows a barefoot Harry smiling down at his pregnant wife as they lay in the grass. Their photographer, Misan Harriman, wrote, "Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow. Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!"
