Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship has been very public from the start. However, there have been a handful of intimate moments that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex definitely kept private, including their first wedding. Yep, you read that correctly.
On Sunday, the 39-year-old and her husband sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all conversation, titled Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special. During the interview, the duchess casually revealed that she and Prince Harry secretly tied the knot three days before their May 19 ceremony.
According to the Suits alum, the couple was married by the Archbishop of Canterbury in their backyard, three days before (presumably dated May 16) their nuptials in front of the whole world. “You know, three days before our wedding, we got married," Markle slyly revealed. “No one knows that. We called the archbishop and we just said, ‘Look ― this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union for us.’”
Of course, the new revelation had royal fans a bit confused about which ceremony was legally recognized by the church. Lucky for us, a rep for the couple clarified a huge detail about the nuptials. Per E! News, the duo was “legally married on May 19, as most people thought.”
