According to The Mirror, the pair arrived to the event hand in hand, and they shared the public peck after Markle gave a moving tribute to her husband (which apparently brought him to tears). In the photos, Markle is seen rocking a pair of black slacks and a white bodysuit from Khaite, while Prince Harry opted for a gray suit.
Following Markle's introduction of her husband, the prince then walked onto the stage and made a tribute to Ukraine and the athletes representing that country at the games. Per iTV, he said, “Your bravery in choosing to come and for being here tonight cannot be overstated.”
He added, “You know we stand with you. The world is united with you and still you deserve more. And my hope is that these events, this event, creates the opportunity in how we as a global community can better show up for you.”
Prince Harry then explained the importance of the Invictus Games to him, and recognized the “boundless humility, the compassion and the friendship” of the event. He also said, “I want to personally thank the people of the Netherlands for welcoming us with such warm Dutch hospitality.”
What a way to kick off the competition. Let the games begin!
