During the event, the duo spoke with all six branches of the U.S. military and even hosted a special luncheon, where, per Hello!, they discussed everything from mental health to “living a life of service.” (If you didn’t know, Harry served in the military for 10 years and continues to do a ton of work with veterans.)
“My experience in the military made me who I am today, and I will always be grateful for the people I got to serve with—wherever in the world we were,” he said according to the outlet. “But in war, you also see and experience things you hope no one else has to. The prior evening, the couple stepped onto the red carpet at the Freedom Gala to present the Intrepid Valor Award to service members and veterans living with the invisible wounds of war. While we knew Harry would be in attendance, Markle’s appearance—and stunning red gown—caught everyone by surprise.
Meghan and Harry’s trips to New York are our new favorite thing.
