Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Called ‘Just Meghan and Harry’ and ‘Down to Earth’ by Fellow Charity Volunteers

They may sign “Meghan and Harry” on paper, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are just as casual in real life, according to workers who recently volunteered with the couple.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid a surprise visit to Homeboy Industries, a community social justice organization working to improve the lives of formerly incarcerated and previously gang-involved people in Los Angeles. During the event, they volunteered in the café and bakery for the #FeedHOPE program, which employs Homeboy participants to provide meals to those in need during the current pandemic.

Per the group’s founder, Father Greg Boyle, the royal couple was ready to get to work—they wore all the necessary PPE and were hands-on throughout their time at the facility.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were just 'Harry and Meghan' to the homies [workers at the charity]," Boyle told People. "They rolled up their sleeves and deeply engaged with our workers in the bakery and café. It was immediate kinship and heartening in its mutuality.”

Mariana Enriquez, who manages the café where Meghan and Harry were lending a hand, also called the duo “down to earth.”

“It was remarkable to share our Feed Hope program with Harry and Meghan,” she said. “The staff was honored they took the time to see us, hear us and walk on our journey today. We will never forget it.”

We can’t wait to see what other surprises Meghan and Harry have in store.
