Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Introduced Baby Sussex to This Royal First (Hint: It’s Not the Queen)

ICYMI, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle introduced their newborn son to the world today. (Awww...) But while the world has been eagerly awaiting a first glimpse at Baby Sussex, one royal has already gotten to know him.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex posed outside of St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle with Baby Sussex and excitedly opened up about their experience as new parents. They gushed that parenting has been “amazing” and that they’re “thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy.” We know the 37-year-old duchess’s mom, Doria Ragland, was in attendance at the birth, but have any of Prince Harry’s family members met him?

As it turns out, the new family of three ran into one of the royals while out and about at Windsor. Royal reporter Omid Scobie, who was present for Baby Sussex’s grand debut at St. George’s Hall, quoted Markle as saying that, surprisingly, it wasn’t Queen Elizabeth who was first to meet Baby Sussex, but someone very close to her.

Scobie tweeted, “The Queen is meeting Baby Sussex shortly, but Prince Philip was actually the first member of the royal family to meet him! ‘We just bumped into the Duke as we were [sic] talking by, it was just so nice,’ says Meghan. ‘It will be a nice moment to introduce the baby to the whole family.’”

Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their healthy baby boy on May 6 at 5:26 a.m. at The Portland Hospital in London. Since then, everyone from Prince William and Kate Middleton to Queen Elizabeth have extended their congratulations.

Welcome to the world, sweet baby! Now when do we find out your name?
