The first photos of Baby Archie of Sussex are here, huzzah! But not without a little new-wave tradition breaking—this is Meghan and Harry, after all.
Archie (officially Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor), had his introduction to the public on Wednesday afternoon in London. Mom and dad presented the 2-day-old per the usual royal standards—swathed in cream-colored blankets made by G.H. Hurt & Son—with one major difference. Instead of being held by mom, baby Archie was held by dad!
Until now, royal babies had been held by mom in every royal baby photo announcement since Queen Elizabeth gave birth to Prince Charles in 1948. While we're not surprised that Harry and Meghan broke from tradition (c'mon, they love to do it), we're swooning over the swap. Just look how proud Harry looks. Plus, how refreshing is it to see dad pulling his weight? (Who says mom has to do all the work?)
Speaking about the experience of motherhood so far, Meghan said, “It's magic, it's pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy.” Next on the agenda? Meeting the queen, or, we should say, great grandma Liz. We have a feeling he'll sleep through the momentous occasion.
