Meghan Markle Just Shared an Intimate Photo with Late Photographer Peter Lindbergh

The Duchess of Sussex penned a rare tribute and shared a behind-the-scenes photo of herself in a warm embrace with late photographer Peter Lindbergh.

Lindbergh died Tuesday at age 74, and one of his final projects before his passing was Meghan Markle's "Forces for Change" cover shoot for the British Vogue September issue that she guest-edited. 

In a photo slideshow posted to her official @SussexRoyal Instagram, Markle wrote, "Honouring the life and work of photographer Peter Lindbergh. His work is revered globally for capturing the essence of a subject and promoting healthy ideals of beauty, eschewing photoshopping, and preferring natural beauty with minimal makeup."

The second photo in the slideshow (below) shows the duchess sharing an intimate moment with the iconic photographer, whose work is credited with propelling supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford into household names.

The caption continued, "The Duchess of Sussex had worked with Peter in the past and personally chose him to shoot the 15 women on the cover for the September issue of British Vogue, which she guest edited. There is no other photographer she considered to bring this meaningful project to life."

Markle said Lindbergh was part of her vision for her guest editor role. When the duchess and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful reached out to Lindbergh for the cover shoot, the duchess asked that he showcase natural beauty in a very specific way.

The famed photographer, who also shot Markle’s 2016 Vanity Fair cover, recalled his conversation with the Duchess of Sussex about the Vogue shoot.

“My instructions from the Duchess were clear: ‘I want to see freckles!’” he told British Vogue.

Lindbergh shot a variety of activists, celebrities and models for the historic cover: Jane Fonda, Laverne Cox, Jameela Jamil, Salma Hayek, Yara Shahidi, Gemma Chan, Adwoa Aboah, Sinead Burke, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jacinda Ardern, Adut Akech, Ramla Ali, Francesca Hayward, Greta Thunberg and Christy Turlington Burns.

"He will be deeply missed," the @SussexRoyal caption concluded.
