It seems we have more in common with the Duchess of Sussex than we thought. Nope, we don’t have gorgeous freckles or a prince husband, but we do love mixing high- and low-fashion and that’s exactly what Meghan Markle did at a wedding over the weekend.
The duchess, who attended Princess Diana’s niece (and Prince Harry’s cousin) Celia McCorquodale’s wedding to George Woodhouse in Lincolnshire on Saturday, wore a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta printed long-sleeved maxi dress that retails for nearly $5,490. But it’s not the hefty price tag that had us common folk doing a double-take. Markle accessorized the pretty toile-like gown with her custom white-with-blue-soles Aquazzura pumps from her own wedding day (how thrifty!) and a $40 fascinator from fast-fashion retailer Marks & Spencer (how prudent!). It seems even the duchess knows that you can pair an inexpensive piece with a designer one and still *royally* work it.
Although she narrowly avoided a tumble down a grassy hill during her and Prince Harry’s entrance to his cousin’s wedding, Markle played it off gracefully and steadied herself with a hand from her new husband. Turns out those duchess lessons are really paying off…
