One of those sheroes, Laverne Cox, revealed the surprise phone call she received from the Duchess of Sussex.
Cox, the first trans cover star of Vogue UK, told People that she received a phone call from editor-in-chief Edward Enninful last week, not knowing that Markle was also on the line.
"Edward Enninful called me at 9:30 in the morning and he’s like, 'I have someone on the phone for you,' and it was the Duchess of Sussex," Cox said.
The Orange Is the New Black star added that the duchess was "so lovely. She just thanked me for being an inspiration and to keep it up."
Cox also had a bit of a fangirl freakout (but, like, who could blame her?). As she chatted with Markle, Cox revealed that she had been a supporter of the duchess since her Suits acting days.
“I did tell her I had been a fan of Suits since the beginning—I had been a fan of hers since then," Cox said. "I just loved her on the show. She just said, ‘Awww.’ She seemed surprised.”
The official @SussexRoyal Instagram account explained the process behind duchess's choices for the historic cover.
"For the cover, The Duchess chose a diverse selection of women from all walks of life, each driving impact and raising the bar for equality, kindness, justice and open mindedness," the caption to a recent Instagram post featuring the black-and-white grid-style cover read. "The sixteenth space on the cover, a mirror, was included so that when you hold the issue in your hands, you see yourself as part of this collective."
A surprise call from the duchess at 9:30 in the morning? Props to you, Ms. Cox. We'd probably have to take the day...
