If you’re wondering why Meghan Markle stood behind Kate Middleton during the 2018 Trooping the Colour ceremony, you should know there’s a totally valid reason.

During Saturday’s event, we couldn’t help but notice the royals’ positioning on the Buckingham Palace balcony, considering Markle was visibly blocked by Middleton.

But according to Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, the royals’ formation wasn’t a snub toward the Duchess of Sussex. Instead, it has to do with the family’s “pecking order.”

“There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first] with his wife,” Little told People.

But that doesn’t mean Markle got the short end of the stick. In fact, her location is a lot more central than when Middleton attended her first Trooping the Colour ceremony in 2011.

Little went on to say that a central position is more prestigious than being on the far end of the front row.
