Meghan Markle Sent a Secret Message of Unity Using Her Jewelry During Her Latest Appearance

Meghan Markle’s latest virtual appearance contained a hidden message we nearly missed.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, recently gave a surprise commencement speech for her alma mater, Immaculate Heart High School. During the video, Markle wore a simple white top and cardigan, which she accessorized with a stack of friendship bracelets.

Her jewelry choice is symbolic, because friendship bracelets typically signify unity. Since Markle’s speech was focused on supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, the bracelet choice appears to be a subtle call for us all to come together during this historic moment.

“I wasn’t sure what I could say to you. I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t, or that it would get picked apart,” she said in the clip. “And I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing because George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered and Tamir Rice’s life mattered, and so did so many other people whose names we know and whose names we do not know.”

In particular, the duchess is wearing the Linear Friendship Bracelet by Monica Vinader, which retails for $175. According to the official website, the rose gold color represents “harmony.” To say it’s fitting is an understatement.

This isn’t the first time Markle donned friendship bracelets during a Zoom appearance. Last month, the duchess shared a video of herself reading Duck! Rabbit! to her son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The proud mom noticeably wore a stack of friendship bracelets.

Thank you, Meghan, for spreading this message of unity when we need it most.
