Prince William & Kate Middleton Just Shared a Birthday Tribute for Meghan Markle

Just because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially resigned as senior royals doesn’t mean they’ve totally disconnected from their British counterparts, Prince William and Kate Middleton. Take this brand-new social media post, for example.

Earlier today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated Markle’s 39th birthday on their joint Instagram account (@kensingtonroyal). The couple shared a photo of the Duchess of Sussex interacting with a child during an official outing, and we’re totally digging the contrast between the red accents and Markle’s black-and-white outfit.

The caption read, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today!” Prince William and Middleton even included two emojis—a cake and a balloon—for good measure.

It’s rare for the royal couple to use emojis on social media, since they typically take a professional approach. However, we’re not surprised by the colorful addition, considering Queen Elizabeth has been using more special characters as of late.

Markle’s birthday comes just a few months after she and Prince Harry announced they’re stepping away from their official duties. Although they originally moved to Canada, they’ve since settled down in a temporary home in Los Angeles, which is where Markle likely spent her birthday. (Thanks a lot, social distancing.)

Prince William and Middleton aren’t the only members of the royal family to wish Markle a happy birthday. The Duchess of Sussex also received special tributes from Queen Elizabeth, along with Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Next step: Fab Four reunion? Hey, we can dream.
