Marie Kondo Says *This* Is the Only Way to Organize Your Holiday Decorations
Denise Crew/Netflix

If you’ve read Marie Kondo’s best-selling book The Magical Art of Tidying Up, then you know the professional organizer’s techniques are, well, magical. And, if we’re being honest, is there a better time to apply her transformative techniques than at the start of a new year? Nope.

In Kondo’s new Netflix series, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, she meets with a couple of self-proclaimed empty nesters with an unbridled passion for Christmas. (Like seriously, we’ve never seen anything like it.) Kondo swiftly demonstrates a simple way to store all of their holiday clutter, and we’re totally using it this weekend.

One: According to Kondo, it’s best for families to gather all holiday decorations in one place and collectively ask if each item sparks joy in your hearts.

Two: If a certain snow globe or nutcracker brings to mind good memories, then store it in a clear plastic bin with like items. If not, set it aside to donate or toss.

Three: Once you’ve sorted through all of the decorations, store the clear storage bins in your garage where you’ll easily find them next year. (Fun fact: Kondo says Christmas decorations are the only thing she has in her garage.)

Well, that’s one New Year’s resolution we can actually achieve. TBD on the whole being five minutes early everywhere.
